My GAME Plan Progress

This year is quickly coming to a close for many school districts across the country which delays the implementation of my GMAE plan. However, I am still able to make progress in my planning in order to make sure that once school begins I can have an immediate and fresh start. The actions I have taken to meet the goals I have set for myself are proving to have positive results in creating and implementing technology into many of my lessons. The class I have enrolled in, the relationships I have formed, and the resources I have discovered provide many useful and helpful hints to making use of old and new forms of technology for the classroom.

Within the last week I have conducted a few lessons that involve the use of my classroom blog, SMART board interactive lessons, and student response devices. I have learned that incorporating technology into my lessons is not as difficult and time consuming that many individuals believe it to be and it can have positive effects on students. “Technology allows students to engage in independent study, to collaborate in new ways, and to produce creative, original projects” (Cennamo, Ross, & Ertmer, 2009). It is evident that student involvement is much more evident when they have the opportunity to use technological resources.

As I continue through the summer and into next school year I am sure that many questions of confusing situations would arise. Until that time comes around I feel that many of the steps I have taken have provided me with the answers I may be searching for.

Once the new school year begins, I will be able to start with a clear view of what needs to be done in order to incorporate as many forms of technology as possible. As the year progresses I will have several opportunities to take advantage of professional development opportunities to learn more about the different types of technology that can be used in my classroom.

  1. Julie,
What are some of the lessons that you have done with your SMART board? I have a Promethean board and I am able to make flipcharts for Reading. I can post a KWL chart that can be written on and saved to review at another time. Also with our Math series, I can have the student page on the board and allow students to come up and write in the answers. Another way that I can use my board is with the addition of the ELMO. Students can then see a page of storybook, their morning work, or something that is out of their practice book. It projects the image just like an overhead with out the need for a transparency.

  2. Julie,
It is amazing how many of us are or where scared of how much time it would take to incorporate technology into our classrooms. However we have found that it is really not that time consuming and in the long run it will probably save us all time and promote better learning in our classrooms. Good luck with your plan and have a great summer!

  3. Kristin,
Our SMART boards can do everything that your Promethean board can do. With my SB I like to use what is called the vortex. It is a great interactive tool that is used for sorting objects or words. I also can go to the SMART website and access a variety of lessons that are very interactive.

  4. Julie,

I to have been doing a lot of planning so that I can be ready coming the beginning of next school year. While I do wish I could put my GAME plan into use now, I am greatful that I get this time to do research and find the best way for me, my students, and parents.

As far as Smartboards, my school district is getting them this summer/fall. I am actually one of two teachers within my school that are going to a week of training this summer so that we can train the rest of the teachers at our school. I am really looking forward to it. What suggestions do you have or do you have any websites besides the Smartboard website that you find helpful. How responsive are your students to the Smartboard? Have you found it has made any difference in their attentivness or participation? Thanks for your ideas!

  5. It looks like you are progressing well with your GAME plan. How long have you had a smartboard in your classroom? Do you use it a lot? I have not had the opportunity to use on yet, but would love to get one in my classroom.

I have also begun planning for next year, even though I don't know what grade I will be teaching. I have been experimenting with different technology tools to become more comfortable using them.

  6. Julie,
My school year has been over for a week now, so I am in the same boat and preparing for next year as well. I am glad to hear that you are having more student involovement using technology and I hope that goes along with using the Smart Board. Our school installed several Active Boards at the end of the year and I am couting on that raising student interest. Great plan!
