Personal GAME plan

In order to continue as an effective teacher it is very important for teachers to further their own education and keep up to date with the latest teaching styles, technologies and theories pertaining to education. After viewing the National Education Technology Standards and Performance Indicators (NETS*T) I am confident in my abilities to utilize the latest technological tools for the classroom however, there are a few indicators that I could improve on.
Indicator 1 : design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity

Even though I am confident with my own abilities with technology, I feel as though in my classroom I can make improvements in creating a classroom that not only encourages students to take the initiative in their own learning, but also makes use of the different forms of technology to aide in motivate and enhance student learning.

Goal: to regularly create and incorporate lessons that make use of the different forms of technology used in the classroom.
Actions: To achieve this goal, I will create Podcasts for remedial readers to complete read along assignments. I will also incorporate the use of blogs through a class website that allows students to share thoughts, opinions and ideas on assigned topics. Students will also have the opportunity to use PowerPoint presentations to display what they know or have learned.
Monitor: At the end of each month I will assess how I incorporated technology throughout the different subject areas. While reflecting upon the use of technology I will complete a checklist that will display which form of technology was used, what subject it was used in, and the date it was used on.
Evaluate: I will evaluate my progress through the completion of the checklist.

Indicator 2: evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning.

Goal: to stay current with the different forms of technology and incorporate these technologies into my teachings.
Actions: To accomplish this goal, I will take part in professional development opportunities, such as seminars and conferences, to remain up to date with the new resources. In addition I will peruse websites devoted to digital tools and resources.
Monitor: This goal will be monitored through the use of the checklist for goal one. Every new digital tool or resource that is learned and incorporated into the classroom and activities and lessons will be added to the checklist.
Evaluate: I will continue to evaluate my progress through the completion of the checklist and determine if more professional development opportunities are needed.

  1. Julie,
I like your idea of making podcasts for remedial readers. Will they be making the podcasts or will you make them? Have you thought about having your strong readers do it for you? I have used podcasts with some of my students and it is a very engaging activity. Students really work hard to make them. Good luck!

  2. Kerry,

I would put both methods into practice. I think it is good for struggling readers to record themselves and listen to how they read. I also really like the idea of having my stronger readers create podcasts for the other students to listen to. Thanks for the idea.

  4. I also think it would be good to have a strong reader work with a struggling reader. This way those students who are stronger in reading can help those who are not.
