To achieve the goals I have created for my GAME plan, I will need a variety of resources. In order to create and incorporate lessons that make use of the different forms of technology used in the classroom In addition to content standards or my district curriculum map, I will need to obtain several iPods or MP3 players. Devices such as there would allow me to record and/or upload podcasts that will act as interventions for struggling readers or extension activities. I will also need access to the computer lab to use technology to enhance my student’s learning experiences. Lastly, I will need information about possible professional development opportunities, or websites that will keep me up to date with the latest and greatest designs in technology.
One thing I have already accomplished in forming a relationship with our technology teacher. Working alongside the tech teacher, will enable me to share my thoughts and obtain ideas about activities and lessons I can incorporate into my teaching. Not only can we share and obtain ideas, but working collaboratively and cooperatively with the technology teacher will also provide me with an opportunity to get firsthand experience with the technology being used and introduced in our school.

Julie,
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to know your ideas you have on using the iPods and MP3 players to help struggling readers and as extension activities. I have heard many people talk about how iPods and cell phones can be used in classroom but I have yet to hear of any good ideas that I could use in my classroom. Also, what do you think your chances are of "obtaining several iPods or MP3 players" from the school?
Susan,
ReplyDeleteWe have several iPods throughout our building. Our staff has written several grants to get money to purchase all of these wonderful pieces of technology. My mother is also a technology coordinator and teacher, therefore, she allows me to borrow any resources I may need. Something I plan on doing is having the fluent readers in my class record stories that my struggling readers can listen to. With each story there will be activities that they will be able to complete once they are finished listening to the story. Not only will there be stories, but I plan to create lessons that teach students skills of ifentifying long and short vowel sounds, digraphs and blend sounds and even fluency. There are many things you can do with the use of iPods you just have to get creative.
In terms of extension activities I am planning on having students use iPods or MP3 players that play video to create mini videos that help teach and demonstrate skills that are taught and have been learned.
Julie,
ReplyDeleteI love your idea of using iPods and MP3 players to help with your struggling readers. I had a similar plan for my students this year, however, I had the inclusion class so all of my students were struggling. I was provided 6 tape recorders from DonorsChoose. The goal was to have students record stories for my struggling readers to follow along with. I hope that your plan works out for you. I think that the students will really enjoy it.
